Remodeling Your Kitchen's Look with Cabinet Replacement or Refacing

As the most visible feature of your kitchen, your cabinets serve an important storage function while defining the look and feel of your kitchen. Start your remodeling job by considering replacing your cabinets. If this is not within your budget, refacing your cabinets can provide a dramatic change for considerably less money than full cabinet replacement.

The Choice is Yours When it Comes to Cabinet Design

According to the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association, there are many styles of cabinets that can suit a variety of tastes. These include:
  • Traditional Face Frame Style: This style features a vertical stile and horizontal rail construction that provides supporting surfaces for mounting doors and drawers.
  • European Frameless Style: This style does not have face framing; doors and drawers are mounted to the sides of the cabinet with fully concealed hinges.
  • Full Overlay: Doors and drawers are sized large enough to cover the cabinet face with only minimal clearances between them. This type of cabinet is easily refaced.
  • Full Inset: The doors are fitted into the face frame and are flush with the frame.

Get the Most Bang for Your Buck with Cabinet Refacing

Most kitchen remodeling projects are fairly pricey. Consider updating your kitchen by refacing your cabinets. Often times the underlying supporting structure of your cabinets is solid, and the cabinet and drawers just need new surfaces and hardware to give your kitchen a fresh new look. Not only can a refacing job save you money, it can also save you time. Typical jobs only take three to four days to complete, and do not require you to dismantle cabinets, sinks, countertops, or appliances that a full remodeling would demand.

Whether you decide to replace or reface, you’ll find that both options have a dramatic impact in the overall feel of the most important gathering space in your home.
