Who Needs a Portable Air Conditioner?

A portable air conditioner will work in many situations when a movable, efficient cool air source would be appreciated. Maybe you are in that situation.
What is a Portable Air Conditioner?
A portable air conditioner is a mobile air conditioning unit, as opposed to a window, wall-mounted or central air conditioning system. Most of them have caster wheels so they can be easily moved, and they are usually around 30” tall. Portable air conditioners vent exhaust through a hose which usually is fitted to the window, and most models require water to be dumped or drained from the machine.
How Would I Choose One?
- Physical considerations: Take into account the size of the area you need to cool, and the heat load of that area. Those factors should guide you to a certain sized model, measured in BTU output. Most portable air conditioner manufacturers have charts to aid you in this decision.
- Convenience issues: Do you want to dump excess water on a regular basis, are you willing to install a drain hose, or are you content with cool, moist air being vented back into your room? You’ll find portable air conditioner models which cater to each of these preferences.
- Financial concerns: As with anything else, you get what you pay for. Features and aesthetics cost money, as does efficiency. Fortunately, with a wide range of models available, you can prioritize your needs and your resources to find the portable air conditioner to suit your situation.
