A kitchen island is a great way to increase your overall counter space. And, they are popular items future homeowners will be looking for in their search, adding to your home's resale value. When considering the addition of kitchen islands to your home, keep in mind the following:
- To determine whether a kitchen island will work in your space or to determine the proper sizing, cut a piece of paper and lay it on the floor where it would be installed. Is there enough room around the edges for pass through and kitchen usability?
- Consider the materials for your kitchen island selection. Do you want the top to be the same material as your counters? Or, do you want to use complementary materials, stainless steel or even butcher block for your island's top? Overall, kitchen islands provide additional counter space, storage and possibly even an eat-in kitchen area.
