If you have an upcoming exterior painting project, there are some simple tips which can ensure that your project has a successful outcome. While paint offers a number of creative options, it also serves as a protective barrier for the home from the environment. Without paint and sealant, heat and moisture can damage the underlying home's construction materials.
Two of the most common paints used for exterior projects are latex or acrylic. Both paints are easy to use, can be cleaned annually and are affordable. Latex paints are somewhat sensitive to temperature changes, so they are most effective in moderate climates. Acrylic paints are more durable, but have a higher cost than latex paints. Once the exterior paint has been applied, it should be cleaned annually, preferably with a pressure washer to remove dirt and debris. In addition, the home should be repainted every 5+ years or so to ensure that the home is protected against elements.
