Solar Panels

Solar panels, also known as photovoltaics (PVs), contain numerous, interconnected cells. Several of these panels comprise a photovoltaic array. These systems convert radiation from the sun into direct current electricity via a semiconductor layer. Generating this renewable energy from the sun is a clean and environmentally friendly practice.

You can have solar panels installed on or near your home and, consequently, generate some or all of the electricity you need to run your household. Obviously, the climate in your region affects how much solar energy you can generate. Some homeowners who generate more power than necessary sell their excess to their local electric company. Photovoltaics can be expensive at the outset, although prices are continuing to decrease. Eventually, once you begin getting a return on your investment, they can save you money. Many states offer tax incentives or rebates to homeowners who have them installed. Also, having working solar panels on your property increases its value.

By choice, some solar power-generating homeowners are connected to their area's electrical grid; others are not. Being connected allows for an electricity backup, when needed. On the other hand, some people like the freedom and independence of being off-grid.
