We’re going to get you up to speed with what we’ve done so far and let you know what’ll be working on today. The big thing today is getting everything prepped and ready for laying tile. If you’ll notice around the room, we’ve got a coat of primer on and we’ve also laid a coat of texture on the walls and the ceiling. When we pulled the old wallpaper off, the walls and ceiling were pretty beat up with lots of holes and pits. We laid texture over that and now we’ve got primer on it. We’re ready for putting in the tile in and paint. We’ve got our walls up and are green board as well. Our framing is done and we’ve got the plumbing moved over. That’s going to be our new shower head coming out there.
If you look down below, you’ll see we’ve got the hot mop done. Hot mop is they come in with tar and the paper. They lay it in multiple layers. This will be our moisture prevention. This will make sure that the shower pan will not leak. Another thing we did after the framing is the seat inside the shower. And over here, that inset, is where we’ll put the shampoos and soap. It’s a shelf built in. On the other side of the wall we’ve got our electrical outlet there as well as one over there. The client wanted quite a few outlets to plug in their items.
So, that’s all framed up and ready. That’s wired. We’re pretty much ready to go start laying the tile. Prior to laying the tile we’ve got to get the floor and the walls prepped. They’re going to do a float. They’re working with green board. They’ll put wire over this and they’ll start laying mortar and float that out so we can get nice and leveled. So when we lay those tiles on there, they all sit up nice and flush. We’re going to butt them together and do a butt joint. That’s where they push them together very tight and you have a very small seam. We have to make sure the walls are nice and level and same with the floor. You can see here on the floor, we’ve got a little disparity between the heights of them. This subfloor was changed out at one time and repaired. It’s a little bit lower than this part here, the original. The guys are going to come in and they’re going to lay mortar all along this area to float this out and get it nice and level. So when we lay that tile down, it looks good. It all floats out perfectly.
Over here on this window, we put a new ledge. Essentially we’re going take the tile and run it up the walls here and its going to drop down this wall here and come across here. One thing to remember for half walls, you have to figure out how your tile layout is. We actually didn’t have enough quarter round pieces because of the angles that we’re working with. We figured we could get by doing a bull nose which is a rounded edge to the tile showing a little bit. Because of the angles of this, we can’t bull nose. Instead, we have to do a quarter round and so, with a quarter round we need to get more pieces. We’ll get that ordered up. We’re going bring a quarter round down here and then around. They’ll show you a few tricks to get these types of angles fit in. They’ll do a minor cut on the inside edge so that fits nice and flush together to have a nice smooth seam.
