Nailing the Door during Installation
- Utility Knife
- Set punch
Fill in any gaps along the frame with shims before you set your nails. If there are gaps, the door will twist and undo your alignment and you'll have to start over. Nail in the frame with #8 finishing nails…going straight through the shims. Nail-set them the punch with a slight countersink to allow for smooth painting. Put in nails on each side and the center. Use a utility knife to score the shims and then break them off clean and easily with hand pressure. You're now ready to install the trim and hardware.
